A Michigan Snowstorm

In case you haven't heard, Michigan, along with most other Midwest states, got hit with a huge snowstorm the past few days. The storm first hit Saturday night, and I was like a little kid I was so excited! Adam and I anticipated the storm and made sure to run all of our errands prior to the storm coming. So when Sunday came along, we had nothing to do and nowhere to go.

Knowing that we weren't leaving the house for anything encouraged us (or at least me) to totally tear apart or basement, rearrange, reorganize, and THROW STUFF AWAY! The hubs complied and was a huge help throughout the process. It amazes me how fast our storage area filled up in just a short amount of time! When we first moved in to our home, we had many very generous people give us some of their old furniture. As poor newlyweds, we were so grateful for everything anyone was willing to give us and to this day appreciate the nice furniture we have inherited. While we still consider ourselves "poor newlyweds," we got into the habit of graciously saying "yes" to any free piece of furniture anyone wanted to give us, and we are now up to our roof with stuff. Our poor basement can't fit another thing, and we are both terrible at getting rid of things. "We might need that one day" was said repeatedly whenever previously considering getting rid of things.

Sunday was a bit different though! While we both still had things we weren't quite ready to part with, we managed to get rid of a lot of stuff. We have added boxes and boxes to the "donate pile" and despite all the junk we have thrown away, those shelves are still just as full as ever!

While it's still not 100% complete, I'm so happy with the progress we have made! We got rid of SO much stuff and even have a few things we want to sell! We have managed to move the living area to the other side of the basement, build Adam a small office area, AND clean up my "craft area" that managed to take over the whole basement.

It's still not perfect by any means and we have big dreams for what we want it to look like down the road, but we are making progress and ditching any stuff we don't need!

Please tell me we are not the only people with this much stuff in our home. I'm beginning to feel slightly like a hoarder, and I'm not proud of that!

    1. Thanks Lindsey! Now I'm hoping we can find the motivation to do the same thing to the rest of the house!

  2. You are definitely not alone on this! I need to get rid of stuff too...it's amazing how quickly it piles up after getting married, and then there is Christmas, and there is just so much stuff!

    1. Haha YES! We went through the entire basement! My hubby donated one carload today and another load is headed out tomorrow! Not to mention the four pieces of furniture we sold on craigslist. Its unbelievable how much junk we have/had.
