Are You A No-Reply Blogger?

Every blogger loves when people comment on their posts, and I am no exception. I love hearing from my readers, and I love responding to their comments. Unfortunately, more often than not, I am unable to reply to my commenters because of them being a "no-reply blogger." It seriously bums me out.

If you are a no-reply blogger, you are missing out on so many opportunities to connect and get to know other bloggers. The good news is, there is an easy fix!

First, you need to figure out if you ARE a no-reply blogger.
Go to the top, right corner of your blogger dashboard and click the arrow to view the drop down menu. If you do NOT see the blogger icon next to the link to your blogger profile, you are in fact a no-reply blogger.

Here's what you can do to fix the problem:

Click on the link to view your blogger profile and then click "Edit Profile" in the top right corner.

The box next to "show my email address" should be checked.

And just like that, you have fixed your no-reply blogger status.

You should start to notice that you are getting many more replies to the comments you are leaving on other blogs, and hopefully you can form more connections with other bloggers.

And I know I will greatly appreciate being able to reply to you comments :)

Tour Through Blogland

Happy September, and Happy Labor Day friends!

Normally I wouldn't post today since it's a holiday and everything, but the wonderful Tara from My Anything and Everything nominated me to participate in the Tour Through Blogland and today is my day! If you have never visited Tara's blog before, you are in for a real treat. My favorite of her most recent projects is her Fall mason jar vases (here). She also turned a wood crate into a fabulous wine rack (here). If you haven't heard of the Tour Through Blogland yet, it is where you get nominated by a fellow blogger, answer a few questions to allow readers to get to know you better, and then nominate three other bloggers to do the same. You will be getting a behind the scenes look at my blogging process (or lack of) and learning a little bit more about my "home life."

First and foremost, I am the wife of a wonderful man Adam, and fur-mom to a crazy dog, Lucy.
By day, I am earning my Master's in occupational therapy and work as a childcare provider for sweet babies. By night, I run this little blog of mine. A typical evening in our home consists of eating dinner together, taking Lucy for a walk, relaxing on the hammock, and/or binge-watching netflix.

1. What am I working on?
I am always in the middle of about ten thousand projects. Adam just doesn't understand why I can't finish one project before moving on to the next and if I'm being honest, I don't know why either. I did just finished my Wood Plank Coffee Table that I absolutely love (here). There has been talk of making some end tables to match, but we will see. Other than that I've got big ideas in my head: makeover the guest bedroom, stencil the master bedroom wall, add a shelf in our laundry room, paint the front door. Realistically though, I will probably just dive right in to some fall decor. I feel like now that it is September, that is allowed. I also got the itch to start crocheting again last night. I guess what I am trying to say is, you'll just have to check back to find out :)

2. How does my work differ from other's of its genre?
I don't really know how to answer this, because I feel like I don't really have one genre. I like to dip my toes in a little bit of everything, but maybe that's what makes me unique. Maybe I'm different because I am still trying to find my style.

3. Why do I write/create what I do?
In the midst of wedding planning, I wanted to keep our friends and family up to date on plans. I loved sharing wedding DIY projects, and I just wasn't ready to give that up when the wedding was over. I love making projects for our home, so I figure why not share them with the world.

4. How does my writing/creating process work?
This is something I have really been trying to work on in the last few weeks, because I do not have a process at all! If I don't have a post written or anything to say I just don't post anything. If I don't have time for a project, the supplies just sit in the basement waiting for me to get to them. I get all these ideas in my head, but never write them down. With school starting back up, I am worried that this space will be forgotten once again, and I want to try really hard to make sure that doesn't happen. I started planning out posts ahead of time and scheduling them, so I know I will always have something to share. I started jotting down ideas so I don't forget them. Hopefully I can keep this up. I might even write a post about how I am trying to stay organized, what things work, and what things don't!

Now that I've shared a bit about myself, I am nominating the following wonderful ladies to do the same!

Samantha @ The Samantha Life

Amanda @ Happily Ever After

Mary Leigh @ Thrift for Today

Christ follower. Wife. Daughter Sister. Friend.
Thrift for Today is about all things thrifty, DIY, crafts, home, marriage, family, and friendship. Blogging about a little of this and a little of that.

I can't wait to read your posts, ladies!

Leibster Award

Last week, I was nominated for a Leibster Award by Shanice from City of Creative Dreams. Today, I am here to answer all the questions from Shanice, nominate some of my favorite bloggers, and ask them some questions.

If you've never heard of the Leibster Award,  it is an award that is passed from blogger to blogger as a "keep it going!" award. It's for bloggers with under 200 followers and is meant to encourage bloggers to keep blogging! All nominated bloggers answer the questions from the person who gave them the award, and then they get to nominate their favorite blogs (under 200 followers) and ask them questions as well. SO here goes nothing....

1. What made you want to start a blog?
I started this blog when I was engaged to document the projects and events that went along with wedding planning. I enjoyed it so much, I decided to keep at it even after the wedding.

2. How did you choose your blog name?
This is an easy one. I wanted to document our wedding planning process, so Melanie Gets Married seemed to be a suitable name. Now that I am married, I figure it still works because the blog goes through our newlywed life, which wouldn't be the same if I didn't get married.

3. What is your favourite post or project that you are most proud of?
I have so many projects that I love, but I would have to say I am most proud of my Ruffled Curtains. I am not a very good sewer, and this project challenged me more than I ever thought possible. The day I was able to actually hang those curtains up, I am certain my face just lit up.

4. What is your favourite blog?
It is so hard to chose just one favorite! However, there is one blog that I have followed since the very beginning and have never missed a post. I am not sure what it is about Jessica from Little Baby Garvin, but I am border line obsessed. It was her chalkboards that lured me in, but somehow she's managed to keep me around. Maybe it's her elaborate gatherings that I wish I could attend, the way she makes any meal into something beautiful, or her sweet baby girls that I just can't get enough of (or all of the above). And I know I am not the only one who loves her. I swear, this girl could start taking pictures of her poop and we would all wish ours looked the same.

5. What advice would you give yourself as a young child or teenager if you could go back in time?
I would tell myself to truly enjoy spending time with my family, and to be nicer to my siblings. Now that we are older, I would choose to spend time with my family over just about anything else. I am lucky to live close to my parents and sister, but my brother is an hour and a half away and we don't get to see him very often. My teenage self would be shocked if I told her how much she would miss those family vacations and simply eating dinner together.

6. What inspires you to keep blogging?
The sweet comments, my followers, and my passion for creating beautiful things for my home.

7. If you could go join a course or go to school for something right now, what would it be?
Aside from working on my masters in occupational therapy, I would love to take a photography class! It is something that has always interested me and something I feel that I could be really good at (if I ever get a DSLR camera of course).

8. What is your favorite spot in your home? Why?
Currently, my favorite spot is in the backyard laying on our hammock and staring up at the trees. It is so peaceful back there and incredibly comfortable. Puts me to sleep every time.

9. Who is your favorite celebrity? Why?
Gee, I don't really have one favorite. But considering I am in the middle of watching Gossip Girl, I will say Blake Lively. I have loved her ever since her days on the sisterhood of the traveling pants, and I continue to love her as I commit myself to hours upon hours of the "scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite."

10. What is your favorite song right now on the radio?
My Eyes by Blake Shelton.

11. What are your favorite kinds of blogs?
I love the blogs that have new decor for every season and are constantly knee-deep in yet another DIY project or room makeover. Lately though, I have been reading more "lifestyle" blogs and have become way to interested in the lives of strangers. Whatever it is, it must have pictures!

And now for the fun part! Here are the blogs that I have nominated to pass along the Leibster Award. Here are seven wonderful ladies that I am loving right now! So go check them out, I'm sure you'll love them too!

Seeking Individuality
This Crazy Thing Called Life
The 26th of August
Polka Dots In The Country
Burlap and Babies
First Comes Love
Little House. Big Heart.

And here are the questions for all of my new nominees:

1) Why did you start blogging?

2) What is your favorite project that you have made since blogging, or what is your favorite blog post? Leave a link so we can check it out!

3) What is your favorite room in your home?

4) What is your favorite holiday? Why? Feel free to tell us about some of your traditions for that holiday.

5) If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

6) Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

7)  What is something you would like to learn to do really well?

8) What are some of your favorite books you've read lately?

9) What is your favorite thing to spend money on?

10) What are three of your favorite online shopping websites?

11) What inspires you?

Nominees, all you have to do now is make your own Leibster Award post in which you answer the above 11 questions, and pick some of your favorite bloggers to nominate as well. The only rule is to pick bloggers who have under 200 subscribers. Have fun!

Thank you so much Shanice for your nominating me, and thank you to all my followers for being so supportive. It really is what makes blogging that much more fun and inspires me to continue creating!

Happy Monday, Friends!

First Blogiversary

Today is my one year blogiversary!

Image from Sweetapolita

Last year, I started this blog as I was in the midst of wedding planning to share my DIY wedding projects. I didn't know at the time that it would eventually be a place to share all my favorite things: DIY projects, holiday decor, making our house a home, reading, and everything in between.

I am inviting you all to ask me any questions you would like in the comments section. They can be blog related, or they don't have to be. I will try to answer them all in a later post!
Also, don't forget to follow Melanie Gets Married if you haven't done so already :)

Thank you so much for following along on this wonderful journey with me. I love being a part of the blogging world and I hope to continue to grow this blog as time goes on!

New Look!

Melanie Gets Married has a whole new look!
I originally had designed the blog to match the theme for our wedding, purple with black and white damask. I have decided that since the wedding is over and I am now blogging about new things, I should change the look to go along with it. So I spent eight hours a little time this weekend deciding on fonts and colors. This is what I came up with:

My new absolute favorite color scheme is blue, grey, and yellow.
There are still a few things that I would like to change, but overall, I am so excited about this new look and the new colors!

What do you think?!
Has anyone else changed the appearance of their blog lately?
How long did it take you until you were completely satisfied with the result?
